Artist: Francesco Zuccarelli (1702 - 1788)
Biography:
Francesco Zuccarelli began his training under an Florentine landscape painter before also studying in Rome. He moved to Venice in 1732 and became the city’s leading landscapist. Zuccarelli’s work gained favor in England as a result of the patronage of Joseph Smith. Zuccarelli was in England from 1752 to 1762 and 1765 to 1771. He co-founded the Royal Academy and became its president. In 1763, he was elected to the Venetian Academy and became its president in 1772. In addition to landscapes, Zuccarelli produced numerous drawings, religious paintings, engravings, and tapestry designs
