Biography: Initially a painting student, Garry Winogrand became fascinated with photography after a fellow student introduced him to the medium. Devoted to the process and his origins in the Bronx, he began incessantly photographing street scenes. He worked as a freelance photographer for a picture agency and numerous magazines. In 1960, Winogrand began focusing on artistic aspects of photography, publishing four books of photography. He used a small 35mm camera and left over 2,500 undeveloped rolls of film at his death in 1984.
