Biography: Dame Ethel Walker was a painter and sculptor. She was the first woman to join the New English Art Club and often exhibited with the group. She earned a reputation as a leading British painter of her day. Walker painted portraits, interiors, seascapes, and portraits in an Impressionist style. Her later works are more decorative and reflect her idea of the Golden Age. She was also interested in philosophy and religion, adding a Symbolist influence to her work.
