Biography:
Clyfford Still studied at Spokane University and graduated amidst the Great Depression in 1933. His early work lent itself to Biomorphism and used primarily organic forms. Still moved to San Francisco in 1941 and taught at the California School of Fine Arts. During this time, he became a leading figure in the development of Abstract Expressionism and was strongly influenced by Rothko and Newman. He often painted with a limited palette, rather focusing on brushstrokes, texture and form
