Biography: Karl Friedrich Schinkel spent most of his career as an architect, painter and designer in Berlin. Although he was the most talented German architect of the 19th century, Schinkel worked as a painter and stage designer until 1815. It was in this year that he was appointed to the Public Works Department of Prussia. He continued to do stage design until the 1830’s, creating one of most famous designs for Mozart’s Magic Flute.
