Biography: Born in Bologna, Guido Reni studied there at the Carracci Academy and had a talent for life drawings. He then traveled to Rome in 1600, where Raphael and other painters that dealt with classical and mythological themes influenced his work. Reni was commissioned to paint frescoes; the most famous of these was Aurora and the Hours, done for the Borghese family. When Annibale Carracci died, Reni took over as the most desired painter in Bologna and established his own studio. His work is praised for its lighting and composition, not to mention its influence on later Italian artists.
