Biography: Initially a painter, Oscar Gustave Rejlander was inspired to begin photographing in 1853, first implementing the wet-collodion process. Learning the difficult to master technique in only a single day, Rejlander soon began to produce domestic scenes of his friends and neighbors in his hometown of Wolverhampton. He made a living creating photographic studies for artists, notably Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. Rejlander is recognized for his allegorical and genre combination prints that required the use of multiple negatives and careful processing.
