Biography: Eric Ravilious was primarily a painter, but also did work in a variety of other mediums such as printmaking and design. He created book jackets and illustration and furniture, glass, textile and pottery designs. He was employed by the Wedgewood pottery factory where he designed a commemorative mug for Edward VIII’s coronation. From 1940 to 1942, Ravilious was an Official War Artist and created watercolor naval scenes. While on a flying patrol in Iceland in 1941, his plane went missing and Ravilious was declared deceased a year later.
