Biography: Baldassare Peruzzi moved to Rome from Siena in 1502 and began the classical mural painting revival. In 1515, he designed a façade for the Bologna Cathedral and worked on a church, chapel and palazzo in the town. Peruzzi became the architect of Saint Peter’s basilica in Rome when Raphael died in 1520. After the 1527 Sack of Rome, Peruzzi returned to Siena and became architect to the Republic. In this position he worked on fortifications, created a minting machine, and designed several villas. He also worked on the dome and altar for the Siena Cathedral.
