Biography: Born in Bulgaria, Jules Pascin lived a nomadic lifestyle. During the First World War, he moved to the United States and acquired American citizenship. Despite this, he is associated with Paris where he was a member of an artist group that admired the work of Chagall and Modigliani. Pascin produced portraits, café genre scenes, flower paintings, and biblical subjects. However, the majority of his work was done of nude or barely dressed teenage female figures. Pascin succeeded financially but was mentally unstable. He committed suicide in 1930 on the opening day of his exhibition by slashing his wrists and then hanging himself.
