Biography: Maxfield Parrish studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under Howard Pyle, famous author and illustrator. After Parrish designed the cover of Harper’s Weekly in 1895, his career expanded and he began receiving commissions for posters, illustrations, and advertisements. His fame reached its height when he began producing color prints for the mass market. Works such as Garden of Allah and Dawn sold millions of copies because of the appealing romantic yet classical style. After this style became unfashionable in the 1930’s, Parrish took up landscape painting.
