Biography: Francisco Pacheco worked in Seville and was interested in many aspects of culture, including academics, poetry and paintings. His home was the center of many artistic activities and meetings. His painting style was rigid and traditional and he produced mainly portraits and religious subjects. Pacheco was also an influential teacher, serving as the mentor to Velazquez who later became his son-in-law. He also taught Alonso Cano. Pacheco’s book, Art de la pintura was published in 1649, five years after his death.
