Biography:
After teaching himself, Melbourne-native Lin Onus became a professional artist in 1974, first exhibiting at the Aborigines Advancement League in his hometown. He then exhibited regularly throughout Australia, and has pieces in all the main national art galleries. Onus was commissioned by many institutions and corporations to create public pieces for their collections. He served as the Chairman of the Aboriginal Arts Committee of the Australian Council. Although his paintings contain many symbolic references to Aboriginal culture, he never wished to be regarded as only an Aboriginal artist. His best known pieces combine this cultural imagery with photo-realist imagery. Before his death in 1996, Onus produced a series of fiberglass sculptures of the dingoes of the Australian outback.
