Biography: Paul Nash first studied at the Slade School before serving in World War I. He was wounded and then worked as an Official War Artist. Nash was influenced by Surrealism in the 1920’s and 30’s, especially the work of Chirico whose exhibition he saw in London in 1928. In 1933, Nash was the driving force behind the formation of Unit One. He also organized and exhibited in the International Surrealist Exhibition in London in 1936. During World War II, Nash served again as an Official War artist, during which he created Totes Meer (Dead Sea). He also worked as a book illustrator, designer, photographer, and writer. He died in 1946 from an asthmatic condition.
