Biography: Girolamo Muziano studied in Venice and Padua before moving to Rome in 1549. His work contained the influences of Paduans, Lambert Sustris and Domenico Campagnola, Titian from Venice, and the art of Michelangelo, Sebastiano del Piombo, and Taddeo Zuccaro that he encountered in Rome. Muziano painted primarily altarpieces and other religious works in and outside of Rome. He also created drawings for religious engravings. In 1577, he encouraged Pope Gregory XIII to found the Accademia di San Luca.
