Biography: Berthe Morisot was the grandniece of Fragonard. As the daughter of a prominent civil servant, she was able to receive art lessons from Corot. Morisot received good reviews at an exhibition in 1864 in which she displayed two of her landscapes. In 1868, she met Manet with whom she learned and contributed to the development of the Impressionist movement. Her scenes of quiet, everyday rural life were displayed in almost all of the Impressionist exhibitions, which was a large feat for a woman artist at that time. Morisot married Manet’s brother, Eugene, in 1874.
