Biography:
Alfred Manessier studied under Bissiere. His early work was inspired by Cubism and Surrealism. However, after visiting a monastery in 1943, Manessier became deeply spiritual and began expressing this through his abstract paintings. He was a member of the School of Paris and was considered its leading abstract expressionist painter. He won multiple awards, including the painting prize at the 1962 Venice Biennale.
