Biography: Victor Louis was a French designer and architect who won the Prix de Rome in 1755. He was barred from the Academie Royale d’Architecture after deceiving an archaeologist into believing that his sketches were newly discovered antiquities. The King of Poland, Stanislas Auguste II summoned Louis in 1764 to remodel the castle at Warsaw. He then designed the Grand-Theatre in Bordeaux, and enclosure for the Palais-Royal in Paris, and a theatre for the Comedie Francaise. His career ended at the onset of the French Revolution.
