Biography: Jacopo Ligozzi was born in Verona to a family of artists. In 1576, he moved to Florence to work for the Medici and soon after was admitted to the Accademia del Disegno. After Giorgio Vasari’s death, he was made the chief head of the Florentine granducal artistic workshop and first painter to the court. Ligozzi specialized in animal subjects and portraits but also produced scientific studies, costume sketches, frescoes, and religious paintings.
