Biography:
Landscape painter, Thomas Jones learned his trade under Richard Wilson. He initially painted in the classical style of his mentor. During a period in Italy from 1776 to 1783, he created the oil paintings of Naples and Rome for which he is remembered. These paintings are some of the earliest examples of British open-air pieces.
