Biography:
Scottish portraitist, George Jamesone worked mostly out of Aberdeen and Edinburgh. At one point, he was thought to have trained under Rubens but it is now known that that was not the case. His style is reflective of Cornelius Johnson’s, though Jamesone was nicknamed ‘the Scottish van Dyck.’ Many Scottish portraits are attributed to him. However, most of his work was badly preserved.
