Biography: Born in London, William Holman Hunt entered the Royal Academy School in 1844 where he met Rossetti and Millais. Together, the three founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Although Hunt’s detailed and symbolist works fit in well with the aims of the movement, his religion kept him from becoming absorbed with the London art scene at the time. He took a two-year trip through Egypt and the Holy Land, resulting in realistic biblical images. After his wife died during childbirth in 1866, Hunt married his sister. Before his death, he composed his memoirs which are now an integral document for the Pre-Raphaelite movement.
