Biography: Born in New York City, Edward Hopper trained there under Robert Henri before spending four years traveling throughout Europe. After visiting Paris, Hopper’s work retained the style of the Impressionists until the 1920’s. Until 1924, Hopper worked as an illustrator, but then began to paint large scenes of American city life. The use of light, shadow and color to depict urban scenes had a strong influence on the Pop Art movement.
