Biography: Lawren Harris worked as a commercial artist in Toronto before joining the Arts and Letters Club 1908. Along with Arthur Lismer, Tom Thomson, and J.E.H. MacDonald, Harris helped to found a new uniquely Canadian style in which he painted nature as it was. With the help of benefactor, Dr. James, he founded the Studio Building for Canadian Art. His efforts gave rise to future generations of Canadian artists, notably the Group of Seven.
