Biography:
Renato Guttuso began his career as a legal professional before turning to painting in 1931. He moved to Rome in 1937 and co-founded the anti-fascist group, Corrente. He also created of series of drawings in 1943 that protested the German occupation of Italy and their violent killings. After the war, Guttuso joined the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti. He continued to paint the social difficulties, including the rise of poverty and the student riots in Paris. His large Expressionist paintings were of utmost artistic quality and dedicated to expressing his opposition to the abundant abusive of power during his lifetime.
