Biography: Vincenzo Danti was born in Perugia but spent most of his career in Florence. In 1564, he assisted in planning the funeral of Michelangelo, an artist whom he greatly admired. He is known for his bronze sculpture, Execution of the Baptist, located over the door of the Baptistery in Rome and also his bronze statue of Pope Julius III outside the Cathedral in his hometown. In 1573, Danti was elected Perugia’s city architect and also co-founded the city’s Accademia del Disegno. In addition to sculpture and architecture, he was a writer, publishing a treatise on proportion and also writing poetry.
