Biography: Pieter Brueghel was born around 1520 in Broghel, Holland. His early influences were teacher, Pieter Coecke van Aelst and Hieronymous Bosch. He traveled in France and Italy, before settling in Brussels to paint his most famous and successful works. Brugehel often disguised himself as a peasant in order to acquire inspiration for his paintings, giving him the nickname “Peasant Brueghel.” Although his paintings were often scenes of rural life, he is also known for his mastery of landscape and architecture
