Influences:
Biography: Dutch artist, Gerrit van Battem studied in Rotterdam with Abraham Furnerius, who in turn trained in Rembrandt’s workshop. Van Battem was also influence by his legal guardian and painter, Jan Daemen Cool. In the 1670’s he worked with van Ruisdael, painting some of the figures in his famous landscapes. In his personal work, van Battem preferred to paint Dutch countrysides and towns, winter scenes, canals, and woodlands.
