Biography: The namesake of his uncle who was also a sculptor, Tiziano Aspetti was born in Padua to a famous family. He learned the bronze casting technique from his family members and then apprenticed to Girolamo Campagna. Tiziano produced many large public commissions in Padua, Venice, and Tuscany with and without the help of his master. Aspetti worked mainly under the patronage of church official, Giovanni Grimani. His job was to restore Grimani’s cherished ancient statues and create new pieces to decorate his home. Tiziano moved to Massa-Carrara to work for Grimani’s great-nephew. In this area known for its marble quarries, Aspetti was inspired to become a stone sculptor for the remaining years of his career.
